How Do I Start My Start Up?
If you're like most mompreneurs, you probably have a million thoughts and ideas swirling around your head. At all times. It's just the nature of the mompreneur--highly creative with no "off" button on your brain. But sometimes, these thoughts & ideas are hard to take out of your head and put down on paper. Concepts to concrete is a difficult task. Blueprints to bricks and mortar is a slow road. "Where do you begin?", a friend just asked me. I answered, "With a pencil, a list, and a sense of humor!" Really, I mean that. That's how I did it. Each day, I made a short list (maybe 3 things, tops) and tried to do ONE thing that day towards building my business. I also knew that even though I had my trusty list, I may not accomplish a darn thing on it. Because when you have children, that can happen. That's life as a mompreneur. And that's where my sense of humor came in. My list kept me on track (and gave me a sense of accomplishment) but my laughter helped me build a business with kids in tow. While I was busy playing mogul, ticking off tasks on my list, my kids were busy being kids. Like the time Grace cracked a dozen eggs on the kitchen floor while I was hashing out an advertising contract with Pregnancy Magazine. Or the time Hope sniffed Brendan's bum and shouted, "BREN POOOOOOPED!" loud enough for the One Step Ahead buyer to hear during my Blankeaze pitch. It's proven that people who make lists get more done than non-listers. And it feels good to check off each task as you do it. So, if you're a mompreneur just starting out and you're not sure where or how to begin, start by MAKING A LIST. Then, HAVE A LAUGH. With a LIST and a LAUGH, you're on your way to building your mom-owned business.
