Truly understand who your “ideal” customer is versus your “true” customer.I say that because one pitfall of many entrepreneurs is that they spend their time trying to target a certain customer but neglect the individuals who are really buying their products. Once you have figured that out research what your customers are reading and where they are, be it physically or virtually on the internet. Those outlets are where you need to start building your presence.2. Don’t be afraid of society influencers. For example, if everyone is going crazy over Sex & the City 2 find a creative way to align your product with the other outreach and press around the topic.3. While traditional print media has taken a hit from our economic recession, viral media has been an excellent outlet for creating sales.Bloggers have become more productive in building brands because they not only review your product but they give you that “girlfriend” referral that some consumers value more than an editorial spread. I have seen many brands grow based on word of mouth from top bloggers.4. Make sure anything you put out representing your product has the who/what/where/when/why/how.It is so basic but many companies miss that and miss opportunities because of incomplete information. I personally get frustrated with liking a product but not having information on where to purchase it immediately.5. Make sure you are targeting the right editors. You may have  the accessory editor’s information for a top magazine, but if your product is fashion, your email will be deleted immediately without a forward to the right person. Don’t do a blind pitch. Take a few minutes to call or email the accessory editor to ask for the right contact information.Do you want more PR tips?
