How to Find a Publicity Goldmine

Are you already signed up with HARO? If so, you know what a treasuretrove of media opportunities it is. (If not, sign up now! HARO brings you thrice daily emails full of "queries" from reporters looking for sources for magazine, television and newspaper stories. You could be that source!) But chances are, even if you're signed up to help a reporter out, you don’t have time to scour through your HARO emails like you should. Don't you worry, we're here to help you find hidden gold in those HARO emails, quickly.

Here you go:

  • Filter Your Email: Use Gmail (the official favorite email client of The Mogul Mom) and create a filter just for HARO. This way, all HARO emails will go into a dedicated folder for you to check when you can, instead of clogging up your inbox. Just don’t wait too long to read those emails or you may miss out!
  •

  • Subscribe to industry-specific emails. If you’re selling baby products, you don’t need queries from an automotive magazine. Go ahead and subscribe to industry-specific HARO emails, so you only get queries that fit your business. You’re more likely to spot a golden opportunity this way than by getting eye/brain fatigue from reading non-pertinent queries.
  •

  • Upgrade to get more. HARO’s basic subscription is free. And if you only want to browse emails, a free account is great. But HARO also offers paid subscriptions, standard, advanced and premium. These subscriptions allow you to create profiles for journalists to read, receive text alerts for new queries and access to HARO’s query database, depending on which level you choose.
  •

  • Follow HARO on Twitter for urgent nuggets of publicity gold.
