Facebook Insights: Demographics, Growth + Referrals, Oh My!

Did you know your Facebook fan page has super powers? It’s true. Inside your fan book page are handy insight tools that can help you create better content, engage and grow your fan base. To find them, just log into your fan page, look to the left sidebar under ‘wall’ and click ‘insights.’Monitoring your insights helps you know how well your message is getting across to your fans. After all, that’s the whole point, right? Here are 5 insights you need to watch:

  • Demographics: Demographics let you know the age, gender and world location of your fans. This is handy so you know if you’re reaching your target audience.
  • Fan growth: The top of your insights bar has a ‘total likes’ display with a red or green arrow. This shows you how much your fan base has grown day-to-day. A green arrow indicates growth.
  • Fan Interaction: Fan interaction includes comments left on your posts, shares and links to your fan page posted by others. Insights shows you when fans like your posts and leave comments.
  • Page Views: The page view insight lets you know how many new and returning visitors are coming to your fan page. To see how many returning fans you have, subtract the number of unique views from page views.
  • Referrals: Referrals are always a good thing! The referrals insights let you know if people find your page from a website outside of Facebook. If you have referrals, it means fans or others are talking about you and spreading to word.
