How to Create Your Own Luck
Sometimes it’s easy to look around at our peers, competitors, and friends, and think, “Wow! She’s so lucky.” It’s incredibly tempting to chalk others’ successes up to ‘good luck’, as though their efforts had nothing to do with the accomplishments and accolades that seem to constantly flow towards them. Why do we do this?Perhaps equating someone else’s success with “luck” makes it easier for us to cope with where we’re at currently in our own lives and businesses. As you’re creating your ideal business and lifestyle, why not learn to create a little luck of your own? It is possible, and you just might be surprised by the positive outcomes!
5 Myths you may have heard about “lucky” people
1. They know all the right people.
Myth: “Lucky people” seem to know everyone and have vast networks. Lucky Tip: Do more networking. Successful people know that relationships are invaluable. When you’re familiar to people, doors seem to magically open. Put yourself out there. Get in relevant conversations, or better yet, start them! Introduce yourself as an expert in your field and make yourself a strong presence. Before you know it, those doors will start swinging open for you, too. “It isn’t what you know, it’s who you know.”
2. They are fearless.
Myth: “Lucky people” seem to have an abundance of self-confidence. Lucky Tip: It can be so easy to confuse confidence with fearlessness. We all fear things. Uncertainty, public speaking, trying something new, putting ourselves out there, and sometimes… we’re scared of fear itself. But, these are all based on stories in our head and not reflective of reality. Successful people struggle with fears, too, but they have cultivated tools and strategies to overcome them and have shifted their focus to fulfilling their purpose and finding prosperity. What tools can you start using to burn your fear as fuel for your journey? “I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often.” Brian Tracy
3. People are always giving things to them.
Myth: “Lucky people” have things handed to them. Lucky Tip: While it may appear that successful people are the recipients of an undue number of gifts and blessings, underneath it all, we know that’s not the case. Very few things in life are truly free. Along the way, successful people have learned to ask for introductions, for help, for guidance, and even for higher rates. They outsource what is not in their genius. They’re not afraid to ask for what they need because they know they cannot possibly know or do everything . Start asking for help and for what you desire, and watch abundance begin to unfold. “You create your opportunities by asking for them.” - Shakti Gawain
4. Everything comes so easy to them.
Myth: “Lucky people” have it so easy. Lucky Tip: All of those people who seem to ‘go with the flow’ didn’t get there by accident. Successful people are disciplined and focused, and they work hard. I’m talking about the kind of work that comes with the dedication and commitment of chasing after your dreams. It’s this sort of work that will bring you to a place of simplicity and harmony. Chase your dreams and do whatever it takes to bring them to life. “Luck? I don't know anything about luck. I've never banked on it and I'm afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work - and realizing what is opportunity and what isn’t.” - Lucille Ball
5. They're always in the right place at the right time.
Myth: “Lucky people” always seem to stumble upon the right opportunities. Lucky Tip: Successful people are people of action. They try something out, they weave, they wobble, they pivot, they scrap whole businesses and start over. They know that ideas are everywhere. Take a cue from them. Get into action and consistently stay in action. No matter how small those baby steps are, you need to keep taking them. Only when that one idea is mixed with action will their business or product see the light of day and the right opportunities will start to find you. “The amount of good luck coming your way depends on your willingness to act.” - Barbara Sher Luck is everywhere, and it’s as available to you just as easily as it is to those around you. Don’t ever downplay or dismiss the active role that you play in your own life. All of the people you admire (and even envy) have created their own luck through hard work, persistence, and building genuine relationships. And you can do the same!Believing in yourself is a powerful antidote to the comparison-itis so many of us struggle with. Instead of correlating yourself with those you admire, holding false beliefs that they’re simply lucky, begin believing that you are equally and powerfully capable of creating your very own luck, too. Because you are. “Luck is believing you're lucky.” - Tennessee Williams
