Finding ways to entertain kids isn’t always easy. Their attention span is relatively short when they’re quite young, and you need to find age-appropriate activities. You want to play games with your kids, but how do you come up with games they’ll enjoy?

It’s easy to set them in front of the television or give them an iPad to keep them distracted. However, as research has shown, it’s essential that we limit the amount of time children spend in front of a screen.

To help you spend the most quality time with your children, we have a few ideas to help you out.

Go On a Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts can be an excellent idea for every age group. Grownups can have a more adult-like scavenger hunt, while children can have one that focuses on kid-friendly ideas and prizes. It’s something you and the family can do together, or your children can invite their friends to join them.

What makes scavenger hunts so great is that the opportunities are almost endless. You can set something up in the comfort of your own home, or take the hunt out to the city. If you want to spend a full day and go all out with it, consider hiring a company like CityHUNT that specializes in scavenger hunts.

Create a Cooking Class

If you haven’t gotten your kids involved in the kitchen yet, now’s the time to do it. Create a little cooking class for them in which you’re the teacher. Pick fun recipes that you know they’ll love to make and eat the tasty creations you make together.

If you feel your child is old enough, have him or her be the teacher and you be the student. When a child gets to be a leader, it helps keep them engaged and encourages them to portray more confidence in what they’re doing.

Get Crafty

Here’s an activity that you can do with your child any day at any time. Get hands-on with building crafts. It could be working with paper mache, if you don’t mind a bit of a mess, painting a picture to put on the fridge, or turning old items into something new and unique. Almost anything can get turned into a craft.

Make Your Own Play Dough

Remember how much fun play dough was as a kid? Well, gather your children and make your own edible play dough first. It’s pretty simple. All you need is unsalted butter, cream, powdered sugar, and (optional) vanilla extract and food coloring for an added pop of color and taste.

Once you’ve made the play dough, you can roll it around and cut it into different shapes. See what your kids can make with their imagination. After that, you can bake the dough and make little cookies or cupcakes with it.

Be a Fashion Designer

Do your kids love to draw or paint? Are they wanting to draw on something other than paper? Turn them into a fashion designer for a day and create your own clothing line. All you need is a white shirt and some crayons or paint. Set up an area that won’t wreck anything if paint spills. Once their designs dry, have them model for the whole family.
