Here are six pre-holiday cleaning steps that Sabrina recommends:

1. Sabrina and her team begin every home cleaning project by taking stock. Do a walk-through of your home to see what needs the most attention as you plan for the holidays. This can include specialty cleaning of silver, chandeliers, windows and upholstery that might require steam cleaning. If the plan is to use outside help, be sure to make appointments early so that your needs can be easily accommodated.

2. Deep clean public areas --foyer, living room, den, powder room and bathrooms --taking special care to include cleaning baseboards and moldings, light switch plates and door knobs. Deep cleaning includes, dusting, vacuuming floors, upholstery and draperies, shelves, and any visible areas where dust collects and is visible.

3. With more time spent in the kitchen cooking for the holidays, this is a good time to thoroughly clean the most used room in the home. This means cleaning all surfaces including cabinetry hardware and doors/panels, appliances and their interiors, (don’t forget the refrigerator condenser cables which can be vacuumed and then wiped clean with clean rags,) and interior cabinets. Purge any expired or unwanted food before addressing this last item.

4. Rooms to accommodate overnight guests need special attention as well --freshly washed linens, new air freshener, thorough dusting and vacuuming, and complete bathroom cleaning. (If there is any dis-coloration on the shower curtain or mold on the grout, this is thetime to address it.)

5. If you have a wood burning fireplace that has been left uncleaned, it might be best to play it safe and get it professionally cleaned by a qualified chimney sweep. There’s nothing like “roasting chestnuts on an open fire” over the holidays knowing that your fireplace and chimney are clean and safe.

6. This is also a good time to clean your windows inside and out --professionally or on your own --to remove seasonal residue that inevitably accumulates over the warmer months.
