Mogul Mom Spotlight - Susan Daniw

WHAT’S YOUR NAME?Susan DaniwCOMPANY NAMEHealthy Kids Running Series Wayne, NJTELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AND WHY YOU STARTED IT

I run a non-profit kids running program in Wayne, NJ. The Healthy Kids Running Series was started to help combat childhood obesity. I brought it to Wayne b/c my daughters love to run and there was nothing in the area for their age. Our races start at 2 years old and go to 8th grade, so its something every kids can enjoy. The Healthy Kids Running Series is a five week running program in the spring and fall. Each Race Series takes place once a week and offers age appropriate running events including the 50 yard dash, the 75 yard dash, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the one mile run. Kids compete each week of the Series for a chance to earn points and at the end of the Series the top boy and girl with the most points in their respective age division receive a trophy. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you run because all participants receive a medal and gift bag for their achievements courtesy of our sponsors. Also after our last race we hold a parent mile. Its a great way for the kids to see their parents getting healthy and the kids just love seeing their parents run.

WHAT DO YOU SELL?I have to see the program, without kids I cant run the racesWHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?My target audience are parents, specifically moms because I feel they are the ones that usually sign their kids up for activities.WHAT 3 PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

My professional accomplishment that I am proud of is that I took a program that didn't exist in our area and for the last 3 seasons have made it very successful. My first season alone had 130 kids in our program. Every season has gotten better and better especially that fact that I am now getting kids from outside of Wayne. Its good to know that parents and children are liking it and looking forward to seeing their children run.

WHAT MAKES YOUR BUSINESS STORY UNIQUE?

One of the things that makes my story unique is that I am also a mother of 2 daughters, I have a full time job (I am in IT) and 2 nights a week I teach gymnastic to kids. So when I added a non-profit program to my list of things to do people said I was crazy but with support from my husband I am making it work b/c I believe in the Healthy Kids Running Series and of course it helps that my kids love to run in it too ;)
